Walking in Boscastle

Boscastle and the surrounding area has a lot to offer the casual and more serious walkers.
An often forgotten area of Boscastle is the "top town", this area was originally where the town houses and associated shops and Inns were situated that served the inhabitants of Boscastle. The Quaytown or harbour area that most people initially head for was built to service the fishing and other local industries with warehouses and related services.
The Napoleon Inn is an ideal starting point for many of the walks in the area, just ask behind the bar if you can leave your car in the car park or you can park it along the road if the pub is busy. The top town with its white cottages and amazing angled roofs is well worth a stroll before setting off on one of the walks.
Short Walks
Top Town followed by a stroll down the old main street into the Harbour Area, have an ice cream or a cream tea, why not call in on the old manor house for a bite to eat? or perhaps back up the hill for a well earned snack or more substantial meal from the excellent menus at the Napoleon Inn. Although there is a steep hill to conquer - it can be done in stages with frequent resting points to take in the view! If you didn't stop to enjoy the view or take in an ice cream (shame on you!) this would take about 1-1.5 hours to complete

Top Town with a walk to Forrabury Church, the "Stitches" and walk down the coast path into the Harbour area, if you need an excuse for an ice cream or a cream tea, just think of the calories you have just burnt off!, if you need something more the old manor house is only a short stroll away. Or why not complete the circuit and follow the signs back up the hill to the Napoleon Inn for a deserved snack or something more substantial from our excellent menus. We would recommend stout shoes and although there is a steep coastal path it can be taken at a leisurely pace. Not suitable for wheelchairs. Allowing for a few "sit downs" on the way, this will take you about 1.5 - 2 hours.
Top Town with a stroll down "butts lane" (just off Fore Street below the Napoleon Inn) to a fabulous cottage nestling beside a stream with bee hives, geese, ducks and doves all vying for attention - PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOG on a LEAD! This is a public footpath that leads straight past Trebutts Cottage. Strolling past the cottage you can turn left after the "kissing gate" and walk down into Boscastle harbour - this part of the walk is down a path that can get muddy in the rain! - Stout shoes recommended. Alternatively, turn right after the "kissing gate" and head up over the hill to "Home Farm", a small farm shop can be found there with local meat and vegetables available for sale. Then head back down the little used road to Boscastle and you will find your self back at the Napoleon Inn. Not suitable for wheelchairs. You will find this walk can take around 1 - 1.5 hours depending on your stops!
